we are still at the point where it's not that bad for you to drive. things are about to change. this is also a look at 80 westbound coming out to the mccarthur maze. let's go back to the desk. topping our news breaking news story we first told you about on the morning news at 4:30. oakland police have issued an amber alert for a missing one- year-old girl. isaza tolefree was wearing a pink shirt with blue bears. investigators believe 56-year- old man kim tolefree abducted her. he is described as 6'4" weighing 270 pounds. he is considered armed and dangerous. he is reportedly driving a 1973 gray kind of a primer colored gray chevy pickup with california license plate 7n79574. now keep an eye out for that car again. an amber alert issued.

we'll continue have live updates throughout our newscast. we also have breaking news out of turkey. a suicide bomber set off explosives right outside the u.s. embassy in the capitol city of uniquer a. coming up at 6:15 our washington, d.c. newsroom just received a response from the state department on the bombing. time is 6:02. in other news for you this morning, the 49ers starting a brand new day in their quest for a sixth super bowl championship. we have sports anchor joe fonzi standing by he's with the 49ers down in new orleans. first we are starting with tara moriarty on a developing story. tara, this is causing new distractions for the team. >> reporter: that is for sure. this is actually an antibullying video that two players made. and it's a little odd but at first both denied ever making it. >> leave -- letting yourself

set goals for yourself. >> reporter: line backer ahmad brooks and isaac told a usa today sports reporter they didn't realize the purpose behind a video me made last august was to fight bullying against gay, lesbian, and by sexual teens. now the video has been pulled from the it gets better campaign website. brooks said he knew it was an antibullying video but not an antigay rights thing. >> someone would have told them. >> reporter: you think they should come out and speak out in support of it? >> they should come out and speak out. support teens and you know it's a big deal. >> reporter: no matter if they are gay or straight. >> of course. >> reporter: now when you look at the video, brooks and sow pa

caribbean himself. now in addition to hanging it here he is being credited as one of the heros of the war of 1812. they started building it around 1722. we ran into a pretty interesting character yesterday. mike is in the pro football hall of fame for his efforts as a player. he was the coach of the world champion chicago bears in the 1985 season. he also was a coach of a guy by the name of jim harbaugh who was his quarterback. they are both firey guys. firey personalities and there was a time when they just frankly didn't get along all that well. but he says he's mellowed in his later years. the two guys have a lot in common. >> that's when he was a competitor. you told him he couldn't do it, he did it. he wanted to prove he could do anything. that's what he was 37 he was an achiever. he drove himself through high school college and pro ball.

he made himself who he was. i think what is inside a guy is sometimes better than what we think outside a guy. i like what these two guys have brought to the table. this family has no be tremendously proud. it will never happen again in major league sports. and i say that and i think i'll live long enough that you will never see it happen. i think they would rather be playing somebody else. somebody has to win and somebody has to lose. the parents have to go through that and they've got to go through that. you are pulling for yourself and pulling against your brother. and this is a magnificent and i hope people don't lose sight of what this is. it's as good a story i have seen in sports. >> reporter: that really is a great angle the two harbaugh brothers about to hold a joint press conference. it's obviously the first time it has happened in super bowl history. in our next hour we will be roaming around a little bit

oakland police are searching for a missing one-year-old girl. brian flores is out in oakland now with more on the story. brian. >> that is right. we are actually on the 1400 block of 98th avenue. behind me is the last known location in this location where the suspect may be have lived. he is a 56-year-old african american man named kim tolefree. let's get to the information on the amber alert. a lot of people searching for this little girl right now. you can expect to see a lot of signs as well. amber alert signs are it will up. the information we have right now is police are looking far 1973 gray primer gray chevy flat bed truck. california license plate number 7n79574. again that license plate number

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. time now 6:15. we are learning this morning former new york city mayor ed koch has died. a spokesman said he died this morning of congestive heart failure. he was 88 years old. during his three terms of mayor, you can see he was known for going out into the street. he was mayor from 1978 to 1989. now we are getting more information about this mornings deadly bombing that happened outside the american embassy in turkey. kyla campbell is in our washington, d.c. newsroom. you just heard back from the state department, kyla. >> reporter: the press office sent me this statement. they confirm there was a terrorist blast along the perimeter of the u.s. embassy. the state department is working

with turkish national police to assess the damage and casualties. the explosion happened before 4:00 a.m. pacific time. the ap and cnn report two people are dead including the bomber and a u.s. embassy security guard. he's am turkish man not an american. he's a turkish man not an american. the suicide bomber was passing through the x-ray machine when that explosion happened. there are multiple walls and bullet proof material separating employee. no damage is reported inside the embassy. employees have been moved to safe rooms inside the building. the question now is who is behind this suicide bombing? right now no one is claiming responsibility but we'll tell you what organizations have carried out similar bombings in turkey when i see you next. live in washington kyla campbell. time now 6:16.

alaska airlines jet made an emergency landing over night in portland, oregon after the pilot passed out. the co-pilot took over the controls and safely landed in portland. that flight was originally headed to seattle. the airline says the pilot passed out somewhere over oregon but later did regain consciousness. paramedics rushed him to a hospital as soon as that plane landed. we still don't know why the pilot passed out or an update on his condition. meantime a team of japanese air safety experts will be right here in the u.s. next week. they will be at the boeing assembly plant where the dream liner jet is built. they will be looking for the cause of the battery problems that have grounded the world's fleet of dream liners. at midnight labor contracts expired pooh id for hundreds of

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. we are getting an amazing look at the big waves at the maverick competition. it shows winner peter catching monster waves in half-moon bay. he won $50,000 in that

competition. he decided to split that money with six of his fellow competitors. vallejo is on the verge of bringing an independent professional baseball team to the city. that is according to the vallejo times hearld. they have reached a tentative deal with redwood sports and entertainment. under the agreement they would play at wilson park. final approval expected on february 14th. the first game would be in june. time is 6:25. the federal government last year banned from thes in synthetic marijuana. but in a ktvu special report we found out it's still easy to find in some local stores. however, it's not being sold under the common names like spice or k-2. instead many stores are calling it something else to avoid being caught. authorities say this is a very dangerous drug and many teenagers are finding out about it in juvenile hall since we are told you can't trace it

with blue bears holding an orange and yellow blanket. the suspect is kim tolefree as we mentioned. 56-year-old african american man described as 6'4", 270 pounds. last known description plaid green and gray shorts. and police tell us that the suspect is considered armed and dangerous. we just got off the phone with oakland police department as well. they gave us more information on what may have happened. it started around 12:45 this morning. tolefree and his wife were in some type of domestic violence dispute. the wife then took off with the one-year-old girl in a car. and then tolefree took off in subsequently that 1973 truck. from what police tell us tolefree crashed into the wife's car somewhere around the corner of 94 and holly. he took the child by force and placed her inside that truck. we understand from oakland

police that the wife did sustain injuries but she is going to be okay. lots of information come into the newsroom. coming up we will be live from oakland police department and hopefully we will have more information on the amber alert. a lot of people looking for this little girl. live in oakland i'm brian flores. time now 6:33. also in over night news dozens of people still have no electricity in oakland following a suspicious fire. we have been following this since 4:30 this morning. claudine wong is live on nicole avenue. i know the pg&e crews are doing their best to get the lights back on. >> reporter: yes, they have been working for a little over an hour here. it looks like they are making good progress. some of the crews they actually just got down from the cherry picker. if you take a look at these wires stretched across the street that is what they were replacing. that's what got burned when this fire was getting under way. you take a look at the trees, you can see where the fire at

least part of the fire is burn. there were a couple different locations. i want to show you how bad it looked when the fire was going. because there was one man that lives nearby who actually got alerted by the flames, called 911. grabbed the camera. this is what he saw. >> grandma. where you at? >> reporter: that is salvador trying to get his grandmother and baby and his family out of the house after he realized the trees in front of the apartment complex he lives in were on fire. this is all about 2:00 in the morning. there were at least three cypress trees shooting flames 30 feet in the air. it caused a lot of embers to drift over the building. some of the wood trim did start smoking. a coupling cars were damaged -- a couple cars were damaged. a dumpster caught on fire. you can hear him describing to us what he saw.

>> reporter: we were sitting inside and i heard a lot of cracking and came outside and the whole street was it will up. >> reporter: what did you think? >> wow. surprised. i told my mom to grab the baby and my grandmother and came straight outside. >> reporter: so at that point, again the firefighters got here pretty quickly. they were able to put the fire out. i talked to a lieutenant that was out here said they were lucky this didn't get worse because it was really causing the huge clouds of smoke and embers to drift over the area. if we come back here live you can see the apartment building that is still without power. and then if we pan over here you can see this tree. when this power comes back on here. about 40 people in the dark. we just saw them come down from

that harbaugh press conference is up stairs from us. we're in the media mecca of super bowl week. that is radio row right behind us. we're more than 5,000 media are credentialed for super bowl xlvii here in new orleans. as for the fans and buzz around this game as you can expect there are a lot of people here and ready to roll. it wasn't the case on wednesday. kind of a quiet crowd even on bourbon street. it was chilly that night. then yesterday things started to pick up. and as you can see the roman numerals for super bowl xlvii were delivered via mississippi river by a barge. the folks in new orleans are so proud of what they are doing hosting this super bowl once again for the first time in 11 years. several folks coming up to us and saying this is the best city in the world how great is our city? of course they have overcome so much since hurricane katrina. a different feel to this super bowl compared to the last time. i was here covering the super that was after 9/11.

now after overcoming so much for this city and of course the new orlean saints themselves winning a super bowl title they have football fever. they are ready to host a couple parties. giving you a little insight of how things have changed in terms of the people here. the hotel rates on wednesday were in the $200 to $300 range. by the time thursday rolled around if you wanted a hotel upwards of $2,000. >> wow. >> reporter: a lot of things happening here in new orleans and the buzz is back for super bowl xlvii. for ktvu morning news i'm brent in new orleans. >> thank you for that. time now 6:38. san francisco police are busy to patrol the crowds and keep the peace after the super bowl. they don't want a repeat of what happened last october after the giants won the world

series. remember a muni bus was torched there were a lot of stores in the mission district that were vandalized. the city will remove trash bins so they won't be burned or turned over. they are also adding extra patrols in the mission, marina, and north beach areas. chp is also targeting drunk drivers this weekend. aaa reports dui crashes all over california jumped by 75% on super bowl sunday. compared to other sundays in january or february. the highway patrol averages 450dui arrests on super bowl sunday. that is why the chp is pushing this slogan fans don't let fans drive drunk. make sure you stay right here with ktvu channel 2 for all of the continuing super bowl coverage. you will see our team the ktvu team is bringing you live reports from the big easy and every newscast leading up to the big game. and then on sunday night after the game is over, switch to

it looks good into san francisco. speaking of northbound 101 in san francisco looks good approaching the 80 split with no major problems getting to that lower deck of the bay bridge. 6:41 let's go to steve. thank you very much. happy friday. we do have a result bit of fog around. 30s and 40s to almost 50 degrees on the lows. offshore breeze still in place which means coastal locations look pretty good today. patchy fog mainly inland. hazy and warm. mostly sunny over the weekend with higher clouds. next rain next thursday or friday. it's looking more like a colder system than a rainy system. that would be about a week away things will start to change. until then not much. expect for a few high clouds and maybe an increase in some of the fog. everything looks really quiet. sunny and warm today. again that offshore breeze that will help like santa cruz. capitola to near 70 degrees. mostly sunny over the weekend. it's a dry forecast and a lot of high clouds. 49 san francisco. yet some low 30s for some.

been issued for a missing one- year-old girl in oakland. the suspect identified as 56- year-old kim tolefree got into a fight with the little girl's mother. the mother reportedly took the little girl and then tolefree crashed into them and took the child away. now the home in the 1400 block of 98th avenue is the last known location of tolefree. police say he's considered armed and dangerous. reportedly he's driving a 1973 gray chevy pickup truck where the california license plate you see right here. 7. in 79 -- 7n79574. have you heard of the love locks? they will be removed from a freeway overpass today. ktvu janine de la vega is in los gatos to talk about the removal and how a local museum hopes to give the display a second chance.

>> reporter: we are here in downtown los gatos. really the heart of the town. they light up the trees here. during the day there is a lot of pedestrian traffic here. and some people who live here say that these padlocks here on the main street bridge sort of add a sense of romance. you can see couples have engraved their names and put their anniversary dates here. but today all of these padlocks will be cut off. the locks started appearing last fall after one couple had a padlock ebb graved to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. they got their idea from a similar landmarks around the world where lovers left their locks. the trend picked up here and other couples started bringing locks and that fence had up to 25 padlocks on it at some time. town posted a sign saying the bridge belonged to cal tran and the locks posed a hazard to cars traveling below. so town officials gave people until today to remove the locks

or they would be cut off. >> i really like the symbolism of the locks. i don't see what kind of a hazard it would cause. it's a sad day. they have been here far long time. they are very special. i don't think it's a hazard. i think we should leave them. >> reporter: officials have come up with a solution. they have posted this sign saying the locks will be relocated. people can remove their locks and they will be put on display for valentines day on february 14th. but as you can see there are still some of the locks left here. they were supposed to remove them last night about 17 are left. these will be cut off sometime later today and they will be moved to a corporation yard. they have until february 14th to pick them up. coming up we'll tell you what people think of that museum idea. reporting live from los gatos janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. we want to update crash in

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. live look at the big board. dow jones up 82 points right now. nasdaq and s & p as well. if you haven't heard of zodis it's the largest deal since facebook. it's the pet drug brand officesser. the independent monitor is oversighing oakland -- overseeing oakland police reforms. the report specifically is citing the police response to the occupy oakland protest. the report is supporting police chief howard jordan that is trying to suspend two officers. the federal government may take over the oakland police department if the department doesn't come ply with court

order reforms. that very same report is claiming that two oakland police officers pointed their guns at a sleeping 19-month-old child. it happened last summer on market street while the officers were serving a search warrant in a misdemeanor drug case. oakland police issued a statement saying the officers were confronting dangerous drug dealers and had their guns drawn for their own protection. during the past four years at least seven people have died at northern california beaches while trying to save their pets. that is why this morning the east bay spca teamed up with the coast guard and national park service to help educate dog owners about the dangers of the water they also say you should know dogs are better swimmers than people. pam let's quickly check in with sal. we are watching the toll plaza and everything else. >> coming up on mornings on 2. it's doing pretty well. no major problems. also san jose we are watching a crash northbound 101 at 13th. let's go to steve. sal, thank you. hazy. a little bit of fog this
